India needs to step into Afghanistan immediately
OPEN LETTER TO MODIJI
Subject: India needs to step into Afghanistan immediately.
Recent developments in Afghanistan have really become a botheration for the entire Afghan community not only in Afghanistan but the entire world. No one can even think of another Taliban Regime in Afghanistan.
The way the US has left Afghanistan is shocking. First they blamed the Taliban for the 911 attack, calling them terrorists, then they were negotiating with terrorists, then they left Afghanistan for the terrorists to take control of the country again. If the US thinks they are safe just because of the distance, they are mistaken. Radical Islam if allowed to flourish in any part of the world will have consequences for every one. Anyways the US has done what it thinks is good for them, let's forget about the selfish behavior of the US.
Once Afghanistan falls into the hands of the Taliban the biggest loser would be India. If you look at the last 20 years, terrorism in India has gone down a great deal, both due to the Taliban being kept busy by the US forces and of course the direct efforts of the Indian forces and it's intelligence units.
Traditionally India is not a country who will take unilateral steps, most of the times it waits for the opinion/cues from the International community and/or the UN, but this is the time that it needs to act fast, as there is no time in hand. Once Taliban takes control of Afghanistan then it would be too late. Now is the time to help the current Afghan Regime before it falls, before the Afghan soldiers surrender en masse.
There are 2 ways to go about it, one is to create a Peace keeping force of all the neighboring countries of Afghanistan, like Tajikistan, Iran, Pakistan, maybe even Russia (it might want to play a role just to humiliate the US) and who knows China might show an interest. Yes I mentioned Pakistan also. I would like to dedicate a paragraph to Pakistan's role here.
After the CIA armed the Mujahiddin against the Soviets and was successful in not only defeating the Soviets but also disintegrating it, it had left the region in a lurch just like this time. That's when Pakistan realized the power of using Islam and Mujahiddin against India. The ISI played all it's games and turned the attention of the Islamists towards Kashmir. It did have a lot success initially, but soon the Islamists realized their own power and they were not ready be on a ISI leash. Now they are totally unleashed and dangerous. Radical Islam is a big threat, not only to Afghanistan, India and other neighboring countries, it's also a threat to Pakistan itself AND the rulers of Pakistan know this fact. Once Afghanistan is taken over by the Taliban their next and immediate target would be Pakistan. A Pakistan governed by Radicals would be the biggest problem for India since 1947. So if India even mentions a peace keeping force to stabilize Afghanistan to the Pakistani rulers, they would be more than happy to assist. Maybe working together against a common enemy would bring the 2 neighbors closer to eventually resolve all their mutual problems and establish good neighborly relations.
The 2nd way is not to waste any time and just step into Afghanistan, as there is no time in hand. The Afghan government might fall any day. Stepping into Afghanistan might be the boldest step for India in a very long time, and that is something that only Modi ji can do. He has taken many bold steps within India until now, it's time for the Indian leadership to step outside its comfort zone to protect a long time friend an ally and it's own strategic interests.
